The area around Pontremoli sits at the crossroads of three wine-producing territories, each with its own character, grape varieties, and winemaking traditions.

Key grapes: Vermentino
Candia dei Colli Apuani DOC
Heroic viticulture on the steep slopes beneath Carrara's marble quarries. The unique microclimate and mineral soils produce distinctive wines with remarkable character.
Key grapes: Vermentino & native varieties

Where to Taste
An artisanal family-run winery set on a stunning 16-hectare estate in the heart of Alta Lunigiana. Owned by Mirta Fedespina and Antonio Farina, with winemaker Francesco Petacco, the estate produces natural wines with minimal intervention — no chemical fertilizers, no filtration, and low sulfites. The agriturismo offers panoramic views of the Val Magra, the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, and the Apuan Alps. The name 'Fedespina' dates back to the 15th century, when an ancestor was rewarded for loyalty to the Malaspina Marquises.

Wine Tasting Tips
Book Ahead
Most wineries require advance reservations, especially for guided tours. Call or email at least a few days before your visit. Some offer WhatsApp booking.
Best Season
Spring (April–June) and autumn (September–November) are ideal. Harvest season (vendemmia) in September–October offers a special atmosphere. Summer visits are warm but beautiful.
Getting Around
A car is essential for visiting wineries in this area. Designated driver or a local tour operator is recommended if you plan to taste at multiple estates.
What to Expect
Tastings typically include a cellar tour, 4–7 wines, and local accompaniments (bread, olive oil, cheese, salumi). Allow 1–3 hours per visit.
Local Pairings
Lunigiana wines pair beautifully with local specialties: Vermentino with testaroli al pesto, reds with wild boar ragù, and Passito with spongata cake.
Buy Direct
Buying at the winery often means better prices and access to limited-production bottles not available elsewhere. Many estates also sell olive oil and local products.
